I really should get around to removing all the non-backup duplicates of files I have on the computer. Such as the 2 extra copies of the photos of our New Zealand holiday in 2001 (or was it 2000? I cannot remember. Maybe it was 2002…). Or the 3 copies of my phone’s memory card. I’m sure that there’s not too many things of value on each copy that was different. I suppose after the HSC (probably around Christmas time, when I’m not partying, or on holidays, or watching movie marathons, or practising piano/flute/clarinet/guitar… can’t be practising piccolo any more by then because I’d have returned it to the school =[ Unless I buy my own) I can just go through the… (at this point I paused in my writing to find out how many files I have in my “Documents” Library) …54,093 files contained within 4,550 folders, taking up 39.9GB…

How on Earth are there 4,550 folders in my Documents library alone? Wait, I know how. Automatically created folders by programs such as iTunes and various games. Which probably end up holding a single 4KB file. Each. Anyways, I see I have a big task ahead of myself. Sorting through the hundreds of photos from my phones over the years is going to be a nightmare. Img0001.jpg, Img0002.jpg… Oh, wait, this phone labeled them Img001.jpg… and this phone labelled them 19102008.jpg, 19102008(001).jpg… I hope last modified puts them in a reasonably accurate order.

But enough about boring you with that. I’ll bore you with the thought that all those files did not include my music library. Thankfully though, that is an awful lot more organised (although I would like to eventually go through them and give the files a unified naming convention). And thank goodness for them being more organised, because there’s 7,178 files alone, measuring a massive 26.2GB. And I’m planning on adding more to that… Wait, I guess it’s kinda obvious to be planning to add more to a music library when new music is continually being released that may interest me.

My Pictures library, which I’m sure has some duplicates in it somewhere, has only 1,521 files (1.16GB) which makes me wonder just where on the computer I put the family photos. I suppose they’re still in the public folder… haven’t checked in a while.

Anyway, onto a different topic, I wish my friends and myself, along with every other student doing the HSC, the best of luck with their/our exams next week. I’m really not looking forward to the next 4 weeks. I am however looking forward to the weeks after those, so I suppose I can use the thought of “one last time” to get me through. Although that won’t help with spewing out 4 English essays and a short story, or remembering 2 years worth of Chemistry which I hate being tested on, but find an interesting subject. Or actually remembering what the stupid IEEE Floating Point standard is and how to work it out. Or remembering those maths formulae on the fly. ARGH!!! Uni is going to feel like this as well, isn’t it?

Anyhows,

TTFN!! Ta Ta For Now!

So, it’s been another long gap between by blog posts, but I guess that Year 12 does that to you. Actually, I suppose any final year in secondary or tertiary study would do that to you. Anyways, today I’m posting this from school, because I have absolutely no exam on today during this trail HSC period. Why am I at school then, when I could be at home studying? How nice of you to ask =P

Today happens to be the day of the Music 1 and Music 2 practical examinations. “Oh, you do music do you?” I used to do music, but I dropped it because it was too much work for me. I’m not that much into music that I would do an essay on something, or analyse the musical techniques used in a certain baroque piece (baroque is my least favourite era of the ‘classical’ music). I just like to listen to it, and to play it. I like to do music, not analyse music. Anyways.

I had this really long post written up, but then Google Chrome thought it’d be a regular jerk and delete half the post suddenly. Unfortunately, I think it has something to do with how Webkit deals with text-boxes and “Crtl+z”. That is, it’ll undo as much as you want. It won’t redo. I’m sure there’s a way around it, but I can’t be bothered to find out. In fact, thinking about it, all the webbrowsers suffer the same issue.

Anyways, long story short (you’ll probably thank me for this), a friend’s (I’m not going to post his name. I’ve decided I’ll just put nicknames or initals, to help protect their identity. I’ll one day retroactively do this to all names mentioned in the blog) Ext Music HSC piece requires an ensemble, and he chose the Concert band to play with him (a past Yr 12 did the same piece, so it was in our band music folders). So that’ll ben enjoyable.

Also, did I ever mention I like Star Trek? Well, I do. My favourite series is Star Trek: Voyager, partly because its’ the first series I remember watching, partly because it’s the only series I’ve watched in full, and partially beacuse I have seen barely any episodes of TOS, TNG, DS9 or ENT (that’s The Original Series (a name given to it after they made the animated series, and The Next Generation), The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, then Enterprise). BTW, whenever WordPress saves a draft (auto save), Webkit removes the focus from the text box, so I have keep on having the tryping suddenly stop when it auto-saves a draft. It’s really annoying.

Anyway, you probably may not know this, but some time ago I played Star Trek Online, a MMORPG based, obviously, on Star Trek. It’s set after the Star Trek: Nemesis move (hence after all the TV series), in the original universe (or Alpha-universe, distinct from J.J. Abrahm’s alternate reality that CBS/Paramount said he could create, which actually was a brilliant idea, because it lets him put his amazing flair to the entire franchise, hence the more compelling story of the 2009 Star Trek film). It’s an interesting game, not the best one around, but I like it, and it certainly has a very ‘Trek’ feel to it, and it has plenty of UGC (User Generated Content) I’ve yet to try, so that’ll be interesting.

Anyways, a technological aspect of Star Trek I’ve enjoyed is the OS that the starships run on from TNG onwards (ENT is a prequel series, set before TOS). It’s called LCARS (Libary Computer And Retreival System). More particuarly, I like the interface. Because the person that developed the idea needed to make a clean, simplistic, futuristic looking interface out of a TV show’s budget in the 80′s, he made these ‘screens’ out of plexi-glass with light behind them. Later on they became actual computer screens which the cast pretened to interact with as CRTs became cheaper to use (and graphics were easier to make). But I thought I could adapt the style of the Star Trek Nemesis/Star Trek Online LCARS interface and put it on my blog. Partially because it would be similar to what I currently have. Anyway, I’ve got to draw up my idea first, which is what I always do with my website designs. Speaking of webdesign, I was going to enter the school’s ‘Design the new School Website’ competition, but HSC and HSC trails got in the way =[ And the prize was $200. Defiantely worth it, considering web design is easier than painting. At least for me. I wonder who the winner will be… The competition said that aspects of the winning design would be used to create the new one, so, I suppose unless your design really impressed them, and actually conformed to their and the DET’s policies (not that they are overly strict, looking at different school’s sites), then the final product would only resemble your design. But who cares anyway? You’d have won the competition.

Anyway’s, I’ve got to go now. Eat some food before I get ready for the HSC music trial for my friend.

Well, it’s that annoying time again: exam weeks. The stress I’m going through, not to mention some of the others in my school, is amazing. It’s just High School, people say. It’s not gonna kill you if you don’t do well. Ohk then, you try being in an ultra competitive selective school like mine then, see how you feel then!
Anyways, now I’ve finally seen last month’s edition of the Baulko Bulletin, I can see what Aaron was talking about with the editing issues. I don’t know the exact circumstances around how Tonia designed the layout in Photoshop, but the errors and quality just annoyed me. Piece of advice to anyone who’s considering putting text in a picture: unless you have a high resolution picture, don’t use JPEG with text, the artifacts around the letters makes it hard and painful to read. Use PNG instead. (if anyone’s wondering, the difference comes down to the compression methods of each format, and what they specialise in. JPEG was designed for photographs with smooth gradients, not the stark contrasting lines that text create with their background. PNG is a lossless compression that retains the stark contrasts, therefor better for texts)
And one of the articles was a kid in yr 10 wonderfully explaining the technical definitions of words and people’s common misuse of them, e.g. the USB drive… People drop the drive part. But then, he wrongly described what Wi-Fi was, and I was like “argh!! Nooooo!!!!!” he correctly said that Wi-Fi isn’t wireless inter net but (where he went wrong) the way of distributing it. It is not the way of distributing it, but a radio technology allowing for networking between computers. Internet is just something it can send over the link!!
Anyways, I’m gonna go now. Typing this on an iPod Touch is becoming tiring.

Now I understand why people don’t post much on forums & blogs around exam time. Because you don’t do too much of interest, and because you’re so darn occupied with studying everything. Sometimes I wonder how wise the accelerated subjects students are… they do really well in 1 subject in their HSC because they concentrate solely on it, and then they have less units to worry about the year after during the rest of their HSC.

Anyways, not much is happening in my life, except that this is the last week before my exam-just-about-every-single-day-of-the-exam-weeks yearlies, and I’m stressed, tired, worried and definitely not studying enough. I can just feel the unpreparedness in my mind and heart… and it’s scary. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: it’s just Yr 11. Well, I need to do well now, because it’ll lead on to a trend next year!! I need to make good habits, and so far, they’re not as good as I’d like!

Anyhows, TTFN!! Ta Ta For Now!

I am going to say this quickly, as I don’t know how much time I have available to me.

I’m not going to be blogging much for the foreseeable future, as my mum has restricted my use of the computer (for good reason I guess). So, until I get myself an iPod Touch or the Nokia X6 or Nokia 5800, I’m not really gonna have much chance to properly blog.

So, as a quick update: Exam timetables are up!! Now I’m really starting to worry about how much I’m studying… I need to finish a prac. essay for English, and I haven’t done any homework for maths recently (been busy trying to practise piano while doing every other subject’s homework stuff…). I should probably write up a summary for Maths, rather than Phys and Chem, seeing as the sciences already gave us the Keep It Simple Science notes…

So, yeah. TTFN, Ta Ta For Now!! (But not for too long, I hope!)

Just because Niro said so, and because I actually feel like it, AN UPDATE HAS ARRIVED!

So, just a small recap of the past week or two. Last week Friday, Deva broke his white-out and spilt some on his pants, near his crotch, in science (Last period). He was rather self-consious of it… Week has been seemingly or relatively uneventful. Walking this week was different. It was drizzling half the time, but we still went out walking. Didn’t get to stop at any shops.

In scripture, Mr Watts advertised Angela and Rebecca’s chocolate (Simon now owes me money because I bought him one… and he was on a streak of not owing anyone money: 1 day!!), and then advertised Aaron’s shaving. Why am I such an impulsive buyer? I bought 2 bars of chocolate. Oh, and I’ve gotta give Owen $5 and Aaron $3 now… maybe I shouldn’t donate to charity… (nah, i’m not that mean)

Boring times means boring lessons. At least with Mr Van Loon. Why did he want to listen to the audio commentry before we’d seen the movie? BTW, I don’t like tragic endings… Anywhos, Thursday saw Jasmin teaching me finger knitting (or something), and I must say, it certainly makes english less boring… probably because I’m doing something more interesting that listening to Van Loon (hey, I used to draw all over my book…). I WANT TO FINISH WORLD OF GOO!!! It’s definately worth the cash, if my parents would ever let me buy a game, that is (and if it’s 75% off on Steam again). I find it funny when I have 158 goo balls, and I build a tower that is 87000 tallest in the world, and other people who are just as tall as mine have something like 400 or 780 goo balls. Then again, mine was a pyramid… so maybe theirs was like that as well…

What to say? What to write? I feel I didn’t do that well in the maths test today. Too many silly mistakes. I always do that… I wonder when we’ll get our english essays back. Mr Van Loon did say they had only 3 weeks to mark them (and then they need the marks on the computer program they use…). Hey, that reminds me, Sweeny hasn’t yet given back our Animal Farm essays… ah well. I’ll never see my failure of an essay ever again (is that a good thing or a bad thing?)

I still need to find out where I can get my computer hardware besides MSY… my mum keeps on saying that I can look in the holidays, but I want to upgrade NOW! Which reminds me, I should ask Niro about his brother’s Xbox chipping…

This post was random… Friday 13th (for the 2nd month in a row) was brought to you by the Sun (and the Earth, say hi to them!!)

BUT NOW YEAR 9 OF BAULKHAM HILLS HIGH SCHOOL IS FREE OF THEIR MAJOR EXAMS!!! YAY!!!

Now that that’s over. A quick update on the site’s theme. As you may know from the footer of the page, I’ve named the theme ‘Changing‘. As you may also have noticed, it is currently at version 0.91. That’s a representative number of the changes it has gone through since it’s original design before it’s reached a presentable level that (since version 0.90) works in most browsers (it now looks the same in Mozilla Firefox 3.04+, Google Chrome 0.3+, Apple Safari 3.1.2+ (they’re the only browsers with CSS3 support at the moment), and in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7+, Opera 9.6+ it looks ok, haven’t tested it in anything else (or on Linux based computers)). Soon I’ll find something to finish it and make it look better, and then I can officially claim it to be finished (for version 1).

Just got my new Piano exam book today. The new series 16 book. It costs $59.95!!!!!!! Oh well. The cover is definately nice. I wonder if the pieces in it are good…. Of cause, this means that I am now officially starting my Eighth Grade Piano Exam (or, at least am preparing for it). I’m already predicting that I’ll do terribly in it… But before I get to the hour long exam for that, I need to actually do my 4th grade theory exam.

Fernand Leger is an annoying French guy that we have to know about for PDM. Commerce with Dumas has taught me that I should pay 100% attention to the stuff we’re supposed to learn and not the jokes and sidetrack stuff that happens. Maths has taught me that I will never ever master any of it. That was random.
