So, we went to our friends’ place, where we were the first to arrive….. so Kenneth and I went swimming. Their pool was solar heated, so it wasn’t freezing when we went in. After half an hour, Benjamin and his sister Lelina arrived, and they got in the pool with us, and there was also our host’s daughter Lauren in there (aparently she loves the pool, but she can’t yet swim properly, she’s only a few years old). So we ended up playing around with an inflatable duck-shaped raft, namely my brother fending off us trying to take it off him, and also throwing beach balls at each other. After 2 hours, we all got out of the pool (it was 9 by then!), dried up and got changed, ready for the start of dinner. By then, There was our hosts (can’t remeber how to spell their name), the Chia’s, another lady from church, a neighbour and us. We had all brought a dish of our own to share around, and we all picked our food and started eating. Then, finally (they had to drop their grandmother off at the airport, or so they said), the Zables arrived, and that brought the loud but fun Joseph and and his talkative sister to the table, which was fun.
After dinner, we all the children went to another part of the house to talk. Alot of the talking was by Joseph and Benjamin talking about things that had happened to them and their friends, with Kenneth and I listening. The girls were keeping Lauren entertained… she likes board games. After a while, we had pulled out our mobiles, and were comparing them, and then Joseph started complaing how his sister gets $100 free credit with her new phone, while he’s stuck with a cheap on.. not that he really cares. He then was using his sister’s phone to text one of his friends from youth, and we all were telling him what to put, or just reading what he put, waiting for the reply.. (oh, Joseph can be such a prankster sometimes…). Later some more friends arrived, after coming back from the city watching the 9 o’clock fireworks. Desert, and also with some of our host’s family now present. Ice-cream and watermelon, custard pastries and a few other deserts… mmmhhh…. Back to more talking, and then soon… the one minute countdown…. and then 12 minutes of fireworks while we cheer the new year! All the while through it, we were commenting on how the Greens party contributed 20% of the effort to it, and about how much greenhouse gasses it must be giving off, and just think about everywhere else in the world! That’s Kyoto out the window… (I know Kyoto has nothing to do with celebrations, but, still…). So after the fireworks, we all say happy New Year to each other, and we all get ready to leave, one by one. It was a good Night/Morning. When I finally get to bed, it’s 1 in the morning…. and I wake up at 6……………… sometimes I hate my body clock.
